Approaching retirement

Is it actually time?
Or do you need one more year?

For professionals approaching retirement who want confidence, not guesswork, we build the bridge from working to retired with projections that account for real life.

THE EMOTIONAL REALITY

You've done the
hard part.

You've built wealth and maybe you're finally starting to think about what's next. But here's the question that keeps showing up: do the numbers actually work?

Not the generic calculator on some website. Not the rough guess your 401(k) provider gave you. Real projections. Real tax planning. Real confidence.

WHAT WE ACTUALLY DO

We specialize in the transition from accumulation to distribution.

That means moving from saving to spending, and doing it without the anxiety of wondering if you'll run out. Here's what that looks like in practice:

Retirement income projections that account for taxes, healthcare, Social Security timing, and the life you actually want to live.

Tax-efficient withdrawal strategies across your IRAs, 401(k)s, Roth accounts, and taxable investments.

Estate planning coordination to protect what you've built and make transitions easier for your family.

Ongoing guidance that adapts as markets shift, tax laws change, and life happens.

Who this is for.

You're five to ten years from retirement. You've accumulated meaningful wealth, but the transition from earning to spending feels uncertain. You've done well on your own, but this next chapter is different, and you want someone who specializes in bridging that gap.

If that sounds like you, we should talk.

THE TILSON DIFFERENCE

Presence under pressure. Clarity through complexity.

Most firms will run a retirement projection once and hand you a binder. We build a living plan that evolves with you, and we stay close enough to adjust it when things change. Because things always change.

Our family-led team has been guiding clients through this transition since 1991. We're independent, fee-only, and built to be your last advisor.

Questions families ask us about choosing an advisor.

Yes. Tilson is an SEC Registered Investment Adviser and acts as a fiduciary for every client. That means we are required to act in your best interest, disclose conflicts, and put your outcome ahead of the firm's. You can review our registration and Form ADV on the SEC's public adviser database.

Fee-only advisors charge a stated fee for planning, investment management, or both, paid by you and disclosed in writing. There are no commissions and no product incentives. Tilson's fee schedule is published in our Form ADV Part 2A, and we walk through it in the first conversation before anyone commits to anything.

In practice the terms overlap. "Financial advisor" is the broad label for anyone who advises on money, including brokers and insurance agents. "Financial planner" usually signals a planning-first approach, and CFP® professionals have met specific education, exam, and ethics standards to use that mark. Ask what the person actually does, how they are paid, and what standard they work under.

Either can work. Many families prefer an advisor nearby so meetings can happen in person and someone local understands the state's tax and estate landscape. Others work with advisors across the country by video. Tilson does both: most of the families we work with are in New Jersey, and a growing number are not. What matters more than distance is whether the advisor is a fiduciary, how they are paid, and whether a person picks up when you call.

The CFP® professional builds and maintains the overall plan. The CPA looks at every decision inside it, from withdrawals and conversions to charitable gifts and a business sale, with the tax return in view. At Tilson both sit on the same advisory team, so the planning and the tax work happen together, year-round, rather than in separate offices at separate times.

This is general information, not personalized advice.
