Recently Retired

You've earned this. Now let yourself live it.

The hardest part of retirement isn't building the portfolio. It's actually spending from it. We help you move from saving to living with confidence, spending guardrails, and a plan that adapts as life changes.

THE PERMISSION PROBLEM

You've crossed the bridge. Now what?

You spent your career saving, investing, and being disciplined with money. And now someone is telling you to spend it. That shift doesn't come naturally.

Can you really take that trip? Is this drawdown rate sustainable? What happens if the market drops 20% next year? These aren't hypothetical questions. They're the ones you're asking yourself at 3 a.m.

WHAT WE ACTUALLY DO

We don't just build the plan. We give you permission to live it.

Spending guardrails that define sustainable withdrawal rates and flag when adjustments are needed.

Tax-efficient distribution strategies that pull from the right accounts at the right time.

Social Security and Medicare optimization that fits your specific situation, not a generic rule of thumb.

Proactive communication during market volatility so you never wonder what's happening with your money.

“Tilson has provided excellent service, helping to build my savings as I age into my early 70s. I have complete confidence in them and I appreciate their routine calls with me.”

Who this is for.

You've retired in the last few years. On paper, you're ready. But the mental shift from accumulating to spending feels uncomfortable. You want someone who understands that retirement planning doesn't end on the day you retire.

THE TILSON DIFFERENCE

This is where our human-first approach matters most.

When a market correction occurs and you're wondering if everything is still okay, we don't wait for you to call. We reach out. We walk you through what's happening. We remind you why the plan still works.

That's not customer service. That's the relationship.

Questions families ask us about choosing an advisor.

Yes. Tilson is an SEC Registered Investment Adviser and acts as a fiduciary for every client. That means we are required to act in your best interest, disclose conflicts, and put your outcome ahead of the firm's. You can review our registration and Form ADV on the SEC's public adviser database.

Fee-only advisors charge a stated fee for planning, investment management, or both, paid by you and disclosed in writing. There are no commissions and no product incentives. Tilson's fee schedule is published in our Form ADV Part 2A, and we walk through it in the first conversation before anyone commits to anything.

In practice the terms overlap. "Financial advisor" is the broad label for anyone who advises on money, including brokers and insurance agents. "Financial planner" usually signals a planning-first approach, and CFP® professionals have met specific education, exam, and ethics standards to use that mark. Ask what the person actually does, how they are paid, and what standard they work under.

Either can work. Many families prefer an advisor nearby so meetings can happen in person and someone local understands the state's tax and estate landscape. Others work with advisors across the country by video. Tilson does both: most of the families we work with are in New Jersey, and a growing number are not. What matters more than distance is whether the advisor is a fiduciary, how they are paid, and whether a person picks up when you call.

The CFP® professional builds and maintains the overall plan. The CPA looks at every decision inside it, from withdrawals and conversions to charitable gifts and a business sale, with the tax return in view. At Tilson both sit on the same advisory team, so the planning and the tax work happen together, year-round, rather than in separate offices at separate times.

This is general information, not personalized advice.
